Last summer, the Sleepy Girl Mocktail made its way across social media, touted as the ideal, pre-bedtime beverage due to its tart cherry juice base. Along with better sleep, tart cherries have been shown to provide a host of other health benefits (like helping to lower triglycerides and control insulin)—but it's not just for nighttime.
Continuing with the trend of all things “girl,” 2024 is looking like it'll be the year of Cherry Girl Summer—in home, fashion, and all things lifestyle. According to Choose Cherries, preliminary new research found that getting 8 ounces of tart cherry juice twice a day (in the morning and at night) can be optimal for regulating your circadian rhythm and the sleep-wake cycle. Appropriately named the Morning Glow Mocktail, this drink offers a fresh way to add tart cherry juice to your morning routine, ensuring your day starts on a radiant note.
Crafting a Morning Glow Mocktail, also known as the peppy twin sister of the Sleepy Girl Mocktail, is simple and requires only four ingredients. The only prep work involves making the ginger ice cubes, but once that’s done, all you’ll have to do is pour and drink. Make a pitcher of the cherry juice and coconut water mix at the beginning of the week, and enjoy each morning.
Morning Glow Mocktail Recipe
- Combine chilled tart cherry juice, coconut water, and lime juice in a glass.
- Drop in your frozen ginger cubes: To make them, clean and chop fresh ginger, and grind it up in a blender or food processor until smooth. Put the ginger in an ice tray and freeze. You can also freeze store-bought minced ginger paste.
- Serve shortly after waking up.
Don't worry: Having this beverage at breakfast doesn't mean you'll be nodding off at your desk when the usual afternoon slump hits. Unlike its p.m. counterpart, a Morning Glow Mocktail doesn’t include magnesium citrate, which is the main ingredient that helps you feel relaxed and sleepy.
Add both the Morning Glow Mocktail and Sleepy Girl Mocktail to your daily routine for the wellness benefits and sweet dreams—plus, they're a must for Cherry Girl Summer.
